Introduction & Updates

Intro 2019

Pure Reason Revolution went their separate ways after a final tour in November 2011, leaving The Valour EP as a consolation prize. Chloë released a few solo tracks and joined Tiny Giant, releasing a few EPs, but never quite getting an album out. Jon did a few remixes under pseudonyms before hooking up with Sammi Doll as Bullet Height, and releasing the No Atonement album which sounded pretty familiar. While it was a bit heavier on the guitars than PRR had been of late, no one would have blinked had it been released under the Pure Reason Revolution moniker.

Then, on October 9th 2018, PRR's Facebook page updated their cover photo. Admittedly, it was one from about 2011, but it was most unexpected, and page followers were soon speculating against hope that this meant a reformation was on the cards. Next was an announcement from the Dutch Midsummer Prog festival that the band would feature on a bill that also featured Focus and IQ in June 2019. The PRR Facebook page was curiously quiet about this - they added the event to their page but nothing was formally said. All rather strange!

And then, as billed, on 22nd June 2019, Pure Reason Revolution, with a line up featuring Jon and Chloë, performed a set comprised of The Dark Third with Deus Ex Machina and Fight Fire at the Midsummer Prog festival. They subsequently thanked fans for their reaction and announced a new album would be released on InsideOut in 2020 and would have a sound more like the debut.

The upshot of this is that I've decided to resurrect the PRR Discography and even update it with the band members' releases since PRR hiatus. Who knows how long PRR will stay together this time? I hope it will be for a long, long time, but whatever happens, I hope you enjoy this site.

Original Introduction

I first heard Pure Reason Revolution at the time of The Bright Ambassadors of Morning single. A friend mentioned this crazy 12 minute video that you could see online. I took a look with relatively low expectations. The mere fact that a song is 12 minutes long is frequently a sign that someone's mistaken length for quality. Oo-er!

The track was absolutely fantastic. I ordered the single there and then and have remained a great fan of the band ever since, amassing large swathes of their works. And thus the discography.

In August 2011, the band announced that they would be undertaking one last tour, issuing a final EP and then splitting up. I imagine, therefore, this will probably be a pretty definitive document of everything the band put out rather than the constant work in progress I'd imagined. I'm very sad to lose them, but we've got three fine albums and a good few non-album tracks to go back to, and I look forward to whatever the band members get up to next.

I hope you find the discography useful. If you have any additions, suggestions, ego-flattering praise, damning condemnations or corrections to make, please email me by clicking here.

Thank you to everyone who sent me additions, corrections and graphics. You're all stars!

Thanks for the music, Jon, Jamie, Chloë, Paul, Anders, Jim & Greg.

Cheers,

Fraser (BaldySlaphead), November 2011

A Note on Dates

There are quite a number of entries where it has proven impossible to find a release date, particularly for promo items and samplers. In so far as possible, I've attempted to identify where I don't know a data by including question marks in the release date i.e. ?/05/2010 would indicate that I know it was released in May 2010, but not the particular day, and ?/?/2010 would reveal I don't know the day or month. Sometimes its possible to make an educated guess - for example, a sampler that is to promote albums released in autumn of a particular year is likely to have been released in Summer.

Due to the way that Blogger works and how I've structured this blog, I've had to add a specific date to release entries, and sometimes these are simply made up; for a ?/05/2010 date, I would enter it as 01/05/2010, for ?/?/2010, I'd enter it as 01/01/2010, but the date given under the entry is the most authoritative date that I have found.
